About Print Production

What Print Production Adds to Your PDF

Commercial printing requires metadata and visual guides that screen-ready PDFs don’t have. Crop marks show where to cut. Registration marks help align color separations. Color bars let press operators verify ink density. Bleed extends content past the trim edge so trimming doesn’t leave white slivers.

OxygenPDF adds all of this. You set the bleed amount, choose which marks to include, and the tool expands each page’s media box to accommodate the marks, sets proper TrimBox and BleedBox values, and draws the marks directly into the PDF structure.

The Marks and What They Do

Each mark type serves a specific purpose in the commercial printing workflow. Here’s what you get.

Crop Marks

Short lines at each corner of the trim area showing where the paper gets cut. The most fundamental printer mark.

Registration Marks

Crosshair targets at the edge midpoints. Press operators align color plates using these marks to prevent misregistration.

Color Bars

CMYK color swatches along the top edge. Operators measure these with a densitometer to verify ink coverage is correct.

Page Info Slug

A text line below the trim area showing filename, page number, total pages, and date. Helps identify pages on the press floor.

Bleed, TrimBox, and BleedBox

Bleed is extra content extending beyond the final trim edge. If your design has a full-bleed photo, the image needs to extend past where the knife cuts — otherwise any slight misalignment leaves a white strip. The standard bleed amount is 3mm (about 9 PDF points).

The tool sets the TrimBox to define the final page size and the BleedBox to the trim area plus your specified bleed amount. The MediaBox expands further to fit the printer marks. These PDF page boxes are what professional print workflows rely on to position content correctly.

How It Compares

Processing Stays on Your Device

Print-ready files are often final artwork for commercial products, marketing materials, or publications. Uploading them to a web service means sharing pre-release designs with a third party.

OxygenPDF adds marks and sets page boxes entirely in your browser. The file stays on your device throughout.
