Is this the same as cropping?

No. Cropping changes the visible box but leaves all content in the file. This tool extracts the region into a new PDF — the page boxes shrink to the region and images fully outside it are deleted.

Does the output keep selectable text?

Yes. Nothing is rasterized — text, fonts and vector graphics are preserved exactly. The kept region behaves like any other PDF content.

What does 'Remove outside content' actually remove?

Images painted entirely outside the region are deleted from the content stream. Text and vector content outside the box is clipped — invisible, but still in the file — because deleting it mid-stream could corrupt the page.

Can I extract the same region from many pages?

Yes — that's the default. Draw the box once, then choose which pages it applies to: all, a range, odd/even, or a comma list.

What about rotated pages?

The region you draw is on the page as displayed — the tool maps it back through the page's rotation, so a 90°-rotated scan works the same as an upright one.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

Cut a Region Out of a PDF Without Losing Quality

More than a crop

A normal PDF crop only changes what viewers display — the content outside the box is still in the file, still selectable, still leaking into text extraction. This tool goes further: it copies the pages you pick into a new document, shrinks each page's MediaBox and CropBox to the region you drew, wraps the content in a clip path, and deletes images painted entirely outside the box.

The result is a genuinely smaller document, not a masked one. And because nothing is rasterized, the kept region stays a real PDF — text selectable and searchable, vector lines sharp at any zoom, fonts embedded as before.

How the purge works

With 'Remove outside content' on, the tool parses each page's content stream, tracks the graphics-state transform through q/Q/cm operators, and computes where every image actually lands. An image whose bounding box lies entirely outside your region is deleted outright; anything touching the region is kept and clipped to the boundary.

Text and vector operators are never deleted — they're clipped instead. That's the honest trade-off: a paragraph that straddles the boundary keeps its outside half in the file (invisible, but still selectable), while a photo fully outside is gone for good. For most documents the purge removes the bulk of the outside weight without touching a single glyph.

When to use this vs. Crop PDF

Use Crop PDF when you want to change what a page looks like — trim scanner borders, tighten margins — while keeping the whole document. Use this tool when you want a new document containing only the region: one chart out of a report, one column out of a two-column scan, one panel out of a drawing. The output is a fresh PDF with just those pages, each sized to the box.
