FB2 (FictionBook) is the XML-based e-book format that dominates Russian and Eastern European digital libraries. Unlike EPUB's ZIP container, an FB2 file is a single XML document: metadata under title-info, prose in nested section elements, verse in stanza and v elements, and images as base64-encoded binary blobs. This tool parses that XML directly, walks the section tree into chapters, and typesets the result onto fixed A4 or Letter pages.

The output is a reading edition: serif body text, each chapter opening on a fresh page under its title, epigraphs and verse set as indented blocks, images embedded at the resolution you choose, and centered page numbers throughout. The book's declared cover and title page lead the document when present.

FB2 collections are usually large and often zipped — the tool is shaped around both facts.

What the Quality Setting Actually Does

FB2 books embed images as base64 blobs, often at whatever resolution the publisher scanned. The quality selector caps how densely those images are embedded: at 72 DPI a full-width illustration is stored at screen resolution, at 300 DPI it keeps enough pixels for a sharp print. Text is always vector — the setting only affects images, so a text-only book produces the same file at every tier.

Cyrillic text is fully supported — the serif face covers Russian, Ukrainian and other Cyrillic-alphabet books natively, which matters because that is where most FB2 libraries live. Books in other scripts fall back to a matching embedded face rather than rendering as boxes.
