How N-Up Printing Works
N-up printing shrinks multiple pages and places them on a single sheet. 2-up pdf puts two pages side by side. 4-up pdf gives you a 2×2 grid. 9-up is 3×3. 16-up is 4×4. The output has fewer sheets with the same content.

Page Size and Orientation
Output pages can be A4 or US Letter, in portrait or landscape. The tool fits each source page into its grid cell while maintaining the original aspect ratio, with consistent 2.5% margins around each cell.
Landscape orientation usually works better for 2-up layouts (two portrait pages side by side). Portrait works better for 4-up and 9-up when the source pages are also portrait.
