What file types can I attach?

Any type — spreadsheets, images, archives, source files. The PDF stores the raw bytes plus the filename, so the recipient gets the file back exactly as you attached it.

How many files can I embed?

Up to 50 attachments, with a 500 MB total ceiling including the PDF itself. Most readers handle far more, but beyond that the file becomes unwieldy to share.

How does the recipient get the files out?

Every mainstream PDF reader has an attachments panel — in Acrobat it's the paperclip icon, in browsers it's usually under a sidebar or menu. The files extract unchanged.

Can I rename or delete attachments already in the PDF?

Yes — the Manage tab lists every embedded file with its size. Rename entries inline or mark them for deletion; nothing is written until you press Save.

Does it work on password-protected PDFs?

Yes, after unlocking. Attachments are listed normally, but saving an encrypted file rebuilds it from page images — attachments survive, selectable text does not. Unlock the file first if you need the text layer.

Are attachments the same as annotations?

Both are supported. Document-level attachments live in the file's name tree; file-attachment annotations are pinned to a page. The tool lists both and labels annotation-sourced files with their page.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The PDF and everything you attach are processed entirely in your browser. Nothing leaves your device.

When Attachments Beat a Zip

Attach files when the document and its supporting material should travel as one unit: a report with its source data, a contract with its annexes, a project package with assets. Unlike a zip, the bundle opens in any PDF reader and the attachments are one click away from the pages that reference them.

Two honest limits: encrypted PDFs can be read and their attachments listed, but saving rebuilds the file from page images — the text layer is lost, so unlock the file first if text matters. And while any reader can extract attachments, not every mobile viewer surfaces the attachment panel prominently.
