Why TIFF?

TIFF is the format professional printing and document archiving settled on decades ago, and for good reason: it is lossless, it supports multiple pages in a single file, and every serious imaging tool on the planet reads it. When a print shop, a records office, or a publishing workflow asks for TIFF, a PNG or JPEG will not do — the container itself is part of the requirement.

This tool renders each page of your PDF at the resolution you choose and writes real TIFF files: one .tif per page, or every page stitched into a single multi-page TIFF. Everything runs in your browser — the document is never uploaded anywhere.

The options that matter for print and archival output.

Picking a compression

LZW is the classic TIFF compression: lossless, fast to decode, and supported by every TIFF reader since the 1990s. It is the safe default. ZIP (deflate) usually squeezes document pages a little smaller and is equally lossless, though a few very old readers do not support it. No compression produces the largest files but is the most compatible option of all — choose it when a downstream tool is picky.

Whichever you pick, the pixels are identical. Compression in TIFF never throws detail away.

DPI guidance

For professional printing, use 300 DPI or higher — that is the threshold most print shops quote. For long-term archiving where storage is cheap and re-scanning is impossible, 600 DPI preserves fine detail in small text and line art. For quick on-screen review, 150 DPI is plenty and keeps files small.

The DPI you choose is also written into the TIFF's resolution tags, so downstream tools know the intended print size.
