About PDF Permissions
How PDF Permissions Work
Standard PDF permission flags are easy to bypass — most PDF readers ignore them. OxygenPDF takes a different approach: it rasterizes each page into a high-quality image and rebuilds the PDF from those images. There’s no text to copy, no form to fill, no annotation layer to edit. The restrictions are structural, not flags.
You pick which restrictions to apply: disable text copying, remove form fillability, strip annotations. The tool renders every page at 2x resolution and reassembles them into a new PDF at 92% JPEG quality. The visual result is nearly identical to the original.
When to Restrict PDF Permissions
Sharing a document is not the same as giving permission to reuse it. Restrictions set boundaries.
Prevent Text Copying
Reports, research, and proposals you share for reading — not for someone to copy-paste into their own work.
Lock Down Forms
Distribute completed forms that can’t be tampered with. Remove fillability so the submitted data stays fixed.
Strip Annotations
Remove comments, highlights, and markup before distributing a final version. Keeps the document clean.
Protect Published Content
Whitepapers, case studies, and marketing PDFs that should be read, not disassembled.
How It Compares
Most PDF tools set permission flags in the file header. Readers can ignore those flags. Rasterization enforces restrictions at the content level.

Processing Stays on Your Device
Documents that need permissions restrictions are usually documents with sensitive content. Uploading them to apply permission flags that anyone can bypass isn’t much of a security story.
OxygenPDF rasterizes and rebuilds the PDF in your browser. The original file stays on your device. The restricted version is generated locally and downloads straight to your machine.
