About Linearize PDF
Make Hosted PDFs Start Faster
A normal PDF is not organized for streaming. A viewer often has to fetch large parts of the file before it can draw page one, which makes big documents feel slow when they are opened from a link. Linearization — also called Fast Web View — reorders the objects inside the PDF and adds the hints a server and viewer need to display the first page while the rest is still arriving.
This tool applies that structure directly in your browser with qpdf compiled to WebAssembly. Drop in a PDF, run Linearize for Fast Web View, and download a file that is better suited to websites, portals, documentation hubs and email links.
What Changes — and What Does Not
Linearization is a delivery optimization, not a visual rewrite.
Fast Web View Structure
The PDF internals are reordered so compatible viewers can render page one before the full file has downloaded.
Content Stays Intact
Pages, images, fonts, bookmarks and quality are preserved — the bytes are rearranged, not re-authored.
Small Size Trade-Off
The output can grow slightly because linearization adds structure for progressive delivery. The result card shows the exact size change.
Already-Optimized Detection
If a file already has the Fast Web View layout, it is passed through unchanged instead of being processed again.
When Linearization Helps
Use it when the PDF will live behind a URL: product manuals, reports, whitepapers, invoices, statements, onboarding packets or downloadable forms. On a server that supports byte-range requests, a linearized PDF lets readers start on page one instead of waiting for the whole document.
It is less useful for files that only live locally or inside a zip. The win is progressive delivery over the web — the same reason streaming video starts before the whole file is cached.
How It Compares
The point is not compression — it is making the first page available sooner.

Private by Design
Linearizing a PDF means processing the whole file, so it matters where that work happens. Many online tools ask you to upload the document first, which is a bad fit for contracts, financial exports or internal reports.
OxygenPDF runs qpdf locally in your browser. The file never leaves your device, and closing the tab clears the working data. You get the same Fast Web View result without handing the document to a server.
