XPS is Microsoft's fixed-document format, similar to PDF. Windows produces .xps files when you print with the Microsoft XPS Document Writer, and some older workflows archive documents in it.

Is the conversion lossless?

Layout, text, images and vector graphics are preserved visually — each page is rendered exactly as the fixed page describes. Pages are embedded as high-resolution images, so the text is not selectable in the output PDF.

Are multi-page XPS documents supported?

Yes. Every page in the document is converted, in order, one PDF page per XPS page.

What does the quality setting change?

The resolution each page is rendered at: 96 DPI (Standard), 150 DPI (High) or 300 DPI (Print). Higher DPI gives sharper text and lines at the cost of a larger file.

Does my document get uploaded?

No. The XPS package is unzipped and rendered entirely in your browser.

Can I convert OXPS files?

The tool reads standard .xps packages. If you have an .oxps file, open it in Windows and print or save it as .xps first — the two containers differ slightly.

What is an XPS file?

XPS (XML Paper Specification) is Microsoft's fixed-layout document format — the file Windows produces when you print to 'Microsoft XPS Document Writer'. Like PDF, every page is a fixed canvas of positioned text, vector paths and images, which is why it converts cleanly: there is no reflowing, only faithful page-by-page rendering.

The problem is that almost nothing outside Windows opens XPS. Converting to PDF makes the document readable on any device, printable anywhere, and safe to archive.

What is preserved

Paths, fills, strokes and gradients are drawn at your chosen resolution, so diagrams and print layouts keep their shape.

Choosing a quality level

Because XPS pages are rendered to keep their exact layout, the output quality setting controls the resolution each page is drawn at: Standard (96 DPI) for screen reading and small files, High (150 DPI) for sharper text, Print (300 DPI) when the document is headed to a printer. Higher quality means a larger PDF.

Known limitations

A few exotic XPS features are approximated: opacity masks and visual brushes are simplified, and pages are embedded as high-resolution images rather than selectable text. For the archival and sharing jobs XPS files usually serve, the visual result is what matters — and it is faithful.
