What does Speed Reader (RSVP) do?

It extracts text from a PDF and displays it one word at a time using Rapid Serial Visual Presentation. You control the speed from 50 to 1,000 words per minute.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. Text extraction and display both run in your browser. Nothing leaves your device.

What is the red highlighted letter?

That’s the Optimal Recognition Point (ORP). It’s the letter your brain uses to identify the word fastest. Keeping it at a fixed screen position eliminates eye movement.

What speed should I start at?

The default is 300 WPM, which is comfortable for most people. The slow-start feature gradually ramps up speed for the first few words so you don’t get thrown in at full pace.

What are the keyboard shortcuts?

Space for play/pause, left/right arrows to skip backward/forward, up/down arrows to adjust speed.

What if the PDF is image-based or scanned?

The reader extracts text from the PDF data. If the PDF is a scanned image without text layers, no text can be extracted. Run it through OCR first.

Does it work with password-protected PDFs?

Yes. Enter the password when prompted. Extraction and display happen locally.

Can I see the full text while speed reading?

Yes. Toggle the text preview panel to see the complete extracted text alongside the RSVP display.

What Is RSVP Speed Reading

RSVP stands for Rapid Serial Visual Presentation. Instead of moving your eyes across lines of text, words appear one at a time at a fixed point on the screen. Your eyes stay still. The text comes to you. Most people read 200–300 words per minute normally. With RSVP, many hit 400–600 WPM.

Optimal Recognition Point

Each word has a letter highlighted in red — the Optimal Recognition Point (ORP). It’s the position your brain uses to identify the word fastest, typically near the start for short words and slightly further in for longer ones.

RSVP displays center each word so the ORP stays at the same spot on screen. Your eyes lock onto that position and the words flow past. No eye movement means less fatigue and faster processing.
