Numbers Come Out as Numbers
A screenshot of a table looks right and does nothing useful. Paste it into Excel and every figure is a picture, or at best a string of characters that won’t add up. This tool reads the table cells out of the PDF and writes each one with its real type, so a currency figure lands in the workbook as a number, not text that merely looks like one. Select the column, and the status bar shows a sum the moment the file opens.
Accounting parentheses, the kind that mean “this number is negative,” convert to an actual negative value instead of staying literal text with brackets around it. A percentage like 8.5% becomes 0.085, formatted to display as a percent. Dates that are unambiguous become real dates. Anything that only looks numeric, a product code, a version string, stays text on purpose, because forcing it into a number field would corrupt it.

How It Compares
Extracting a table from a PDF is a detection problem, not a formatting one, and every tool gets some of it wrong. The honest difference is what happens before you commit to a download.

The Detector’s Real Limits, Shown Before You Download
Table detection on a PDF is a guess the file format doesn’t help with, unlike a spreadsheet, which states its own structure outright. Two shapes trip it up in ways worth knowing about. A financial header with a merged cell, something like “Qty” and “Unit Price” sharing one box, mis-splits, because the detector has no way to know that box was ever merged. A table whose cells wrap onto several lines, common in anything with a long description column, collapses rows that should have stayed separate.
That’s exactly why the extracted grid shows up before anything downloads. You can catch a mis-split header or a collapsed row before it becomes a workbook you trusted without looking, and leave a bad table out of the export.
When There’s Nothing Real to Extract
A PDF with no table just says so, with a link to PDF to Text or PDF to Markdown instead. A scanned document, one that’s actually a photograph of a page with no real text underneath, gets recognized as scanned and pointed at OCR PDF rather than coming back as an empty workbook. A password-protected file prompts you to unlock it, but the way this app decrypts a protected PDF renders each page as an image first, so a genuinely text-based protected PDF currently gets treated the same as a scan instead of having its tables extracted directly.
