Recolor the Text, Keep Everything Else

PDF text color lives in the page's content stream: each text block sets a fill color with an operator like rg before drawing its glyphs. This tool rewrites those operators — inside text blocks only — so the words change color while fonts, sizes, spacing, images and vector graphics stay exactly as they were.

Because the text itself is never re-rendered, the result is still a real text PDF: searchable, selectable, and accessible to screen readers. That makes it the right fix when a document prints with unreadably light gray text, when a brand color needs updating across a report, or when colored headings need to come down to black for a print run.

Two choices decide the whole job: which text to touch, and what color it becomes.

When to Use It — and When Not To

Use it for legibility fixes (light-gray body text to black), brand updates (old accent color to the new one), and print prep (colored text flattened to a single ink). It works on any PDF whose text is stored as text — which is most PDFs exported from Word, InDesign, LaTeX or a browser.

It will not recolor text that was flattened into an image — a scanned page or a screenshot has no text operators to rewrite. For those, an image-level tool like Adjust Colors or Invert Colors is the right job. Encrypted PDFs need unlocking first, since the content stream can't be edited while the file is protected.

How It Compares

Recoloring text operators is surgical; rasterizing or re-exporting is not.

Your Document Never Leaves the Device

The recolor happens entirely in your browser: the content streams are decoded, the color operators are rewritten, and the PDF is saved locally. Nothing is uploaded, and closing the tab wipes the data — which matters when the document is a contract, a manuscript, or anything else you wouldn't email to a stranger.
