How Automatic Splitting Works
A month of invoices arrives as one file. Somewhere inside, page 1 repeats: a new invoice number, a page counter back at 1, a masthead you have seen before. The tool reads the text layer of every page, scores those signals, and proposes where each document begins. You review the groups before anything is written.

Review Before Anything Is Written
The review step is the whole point. Every proposed group shows its page range, its derived filename, and the evidence that produced the split, like a page counter resetting to 1 or a fresh invoice number. Read the evidence, not just the filenames.
Merging is the primary action, because the measured failure mode is over-splitting: a mid-document page that looks like a fresh start. Merge two groups back together in one click, or split a group that swallowed two documents. Nothing is written until you approve.

What It Refuses, and Why
Scanned stacks are refused with a route out, not a silent bad result. With no text layer there is nothing to score, so the tool points at OCR first and waits. Past 300 pages it declines rather than risking the tab, since writing hundreds of output PDFs is the memory cost. And a file that looks like one document says so, offering manual splitting instead of inventing boundaries.
Your batch stays on your device through all of it. Invoices carry names, amounts, account numbers. The detection pass reads that text in your browser and never sends it anywhere. Close the tab and the data is gone.
